Christmas is all about celebration, fun, and bringing people together. This year, do you want to throw a Christmas party with a theme? Perhaps you want to start a new tradition with your friends and family? Or maybe you want to organise a party that offers something a little more than just mulled wine and a mince pie.
Here are some Christmas party themes to inspire you this festive season.
15 Christmas Party Themes
1. Christmas Tree Decorating Party
Invite people over to help you decorate your Christmas tree. You could ask everyone to bring an ornament for the Christmas tree. They could sign their ornament with their name and date and you’ll have lovely keepsakes for years to come.
2. Local Christmas Lights Party
Invite your neighbours over for a buffet feast, or cook up a giant pot of curry or soup. Then all wrap up warm and go walking/driving around the neighbourhood looking at the Christmas lights.
3. Christmas Pot Luck Party
Ask everyone, or every couple, to bring a dinner dish each (such as a main, salad, dessert) and all dig in together and marvel at each other’s cooking prowess.
4. Group Theatre Trip
Organise a group theatre trip with your friends, family, or co-workers. You can make a group booking and usually get a discount. Invite everyone to meet at your house first for a buffet or pot luck dinner then head to the theatre together to watch the panto or ballet. We love to see The Nutcracker every year.
5. Food Theme
Arrange a get-together around a food theme such as pizza, curry, tacos, casseroles, jacket potatoes. Choose a food type that lets people load up or fill from a selection of toppings for extra fun combinations.
6. Gift Box
As Christmas is a time for giving, why not organise a party to help the vulnerable and those in need. Invite guests to bring small gift items and makeup shoeboxes of gifts for a local shelter.
7. Wrapping Party
Gift wrapping can be one of the more tedious tasks at Christmastime. Why not host a wrapping party. Get your friends to come over with some of their gifts to wrap. You could provide interesting and cute ribbons and tags, and enjoy wrapping with company.
8. Christmas Crafts
Start of the season with a Christmas crafts party. You could provide the supplies to make Christmas cards, ornaments, gift wraps, or wreaths.
9. Gingerbread Houses
Invite some friends over to decorate gingerbread houses. You could even make it a fun competition with a prize for the best house.
10. Christmas Pub Crawl
Gather your mates together for a warm pot roast before heading out on a pub crawl in your local area.
11. Winter Hike
If you’re the outdoorsy type bring together a group to go on a picturesque winter walk followed by hot soup and sandwiches at your place afterwards. Extra points if you have a fireplace to warm up at afterwards.
12. Christmas Caroling
For those of the musical persuasion, you could organise a group to carolling around your local area. If you’re a little shy you could stay at home and sing carols with your friends. Even better if you have someone to play a guitar or piano to accompany you. Don’t forget to print out the carol lyrics so you’re all singing from the same hymn sheet!
13. Movie Night
Host a movie night for your favourite Christmas movie. We love ‘Elf’, ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’, and ‘Muppet’s Christmas Carol’. Provide snacks, blankets, and set up your living room cinema-style.
14. Christmas Bake-Off
With a bit more organisation you could host a Christmas Bake-Off competition. Each person bakes something Christmas themed and you hold a secret ballot to decide on the winner. The plus side is there are loads of delicious treats to eat!
15. Fancy Dress
You could pick a Christmas fancy dress theme based around a particular movie or genre. Or go with general fancy dress. Anyone who dresses up as Christmas Pudding gets a gold star!
